This book is intended primarily as a text for students of engineering particularly metallurgical and chemical. So far there was no book covering all the aspects of electrometallurgy and at the same time to serve as a text book. Our intention has been to cover almost all the aspects of electrometallurgy in one volume. The book will serve as a useful introduction for those who require a more detailed treatment of a particular aspect. The book has been divided in several sections. Each section covers only one particular aspect of the subject. The first section covers the various fundamental principles which may be helpful in dealing with electrochemical problems of practical interest covered in subsequent sections. As a result, the treatment in this section is more qualitative than quantative. The second section deals with corrosion-types and prevention. The third section describes the various anodic processes of metallurgical interest. Recent topics such as electrochemical machining and grinding have also been included under this section. The fourth section deals with various cathodic processes namely electroplating of metals and alloys, electro forming, electrode position of metal powders, and electrochemical extraction and ref. ning of metals. The processes such as electric discharge forming and magnetic forming have also been included in electroforming chapter for the sake of comparison. The fifth and the last section describes various electrical heating techniques and their application in various metallurgical processes. The authors sincerely acknowledge the helpful advice given by Mr. Navin Chandra in chapter 19 and 20 and Dr. A. Lahiri in chapter 2 to 5.
