Rural transport and infrastructure development in Nigeria have being topical issues and have been identified by many as crucial components for economic development of the country. In light of the above, the paper adopted survey method to gather data while secondary sources of data were also utilised to argument the later. A total of three hundred set of questionnaires were administered in three randomly selected communities in the study area. The analysis of the data revealed an inequality in the provision of road infrastructure and rehabilitation of roads in the area, resulting in disparities in the level of development. The poor condition of roads in the area is having negative effects on agricultural activities which is the major source of income of residents, thereby increasing the poverty rate. The study recommendations integrated rural development strategy, empowerment of the grassroots dwellers by the government to enhance grassroots development. Other recommendations include the establishment of road maintenance unit at the local government level to ensure that existing roads are kept in good condition, encourage private-public participation in rural road development and finally, community efforts should be encouraged through self-help approach.

This paper aimed at the evaluation of the factors that are affecting the housing maintenance and its probable solutions to the public and private housing facilities in Nigeria. Data for the study were collected through well-structured questionnaire directed to construction professionals in the construction firm and government ministries. Data collected were analysed using frequency distribution table and relative significance index. The study revealed thatDesign and proper workmanshipranked first with an , material specifications ranked second with RSI value of 0.847 and construction supervision ranked third with an RSI value of 0.827. These are followed by detailing of working drawingsThe common solution to the housing maintenance is the monitoring and documentation of corrective actions, project expenditures, and accomplishments. This solution was ranked first with an RSI value of 0.880. Provision of accurate data for maintenance and construction programme decision making ranked second with an RSI value of 0.833. The study recommended that theBuilding professionals should participate in design and proper workmanship,building materials to be used for construction must be strictly adhere to its specifications and there must be adequate construction supervision and detailing of working drawings,

The rural areas is generally characterized by low population density, low level of economic activities and traffic; long distances between nodal points, such as service centres; high unit costs for service delivery, operations, maintenance, and often difficult geographic and weather conditions. Rural communities face transport constraints which limit their ability to reduce their poverty and in order to satisfy their need for greater access to health, education and every possible opportunities, ease of physical accessibility and freedom of movement are top priorities. Questionnaire was administered on a randomly selected sample of 200 residents in the area. Of the 200 questionnaires administered, 182 questionnaires were received for analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Secondary data was also sourced to serve as complement to the primary data, thus allowing for a robust research. Descriptive statistical tools such as percentages were adopted to present the socioeconomic characteristics in the area. Findings showed that the about 52.2% of sampled population are male, 12.1 % are degree holders, 39% of respondents are young within the 25 – 35 yrs age bracket, 70.3% married. Also, that majority of the respondents (54.4%) said that there are rural health facilities in their area, while about 78% of the respondents observed that road network in the area is either bad / very bad (poor). It was established that lack of transport infrastructure coupled with poor road maintenance were seen as the leading causes of inaccessibility of the area.
